“Nope” intensifies, diversifies grammatically

Sentence first

Remember the transformation of fail and win 5–6 years ago? Fleeting online slang phrases like bucket of fail and made of win may sound dated now, but terms like epic fail/win and FTW (“for the win”) and the words’ use as tags and hashtags remain popular. Fail and win have firmly, if informally, extended their grammatical domains, having been converted from verb to noun, interjection, and other categories.

A word undergoing comparable change is nope. Its metamorphosis over the last few years has in some ways been more impressive, but it seems less remarked on than fail and win – maybe because of its more limited distribution. For instance, this cartoon on Imgur (pronunciation note here), which shows Spider-Man shooting spiders from his hands, drew comments that use nope as a verb, adjective, and noun – mass and count – as well as duplicating, lengthening, and…

Imagination vs knowledge

So i had to prepare a speech on the question “Is imagination more valuable than knowledge?” for my english class and thought i would share it with you ,so here it goes …

I am sure most of you have seen the poster of Albert Einstein, printed with his famous quotation:“Imagination is more important than knowledge. For knowledge is limited to all we now know and understand, while imagination embraces the entire world, and all there ever will be to know and understand.”  But what did Einstein mean by that? Interpreting Einstein may be a bit out of my leave, but I will give it try.

It’s very easy to compare imagination and knowledge in an metaphorical sense – but we know that imagination is purely fiction till the point that it is proved and made fact .Artists, geniuses and other rebellious spirits have often claimed imagination as their territory. Knowledge, that dull conviction resulting from a brush with reality, is black-and-white, logical, stable, conservative – the domain of curators and  accountants. So when it comes to the debate on whether imagination is more valuable then knowledge ? What is the right answer Well thats easy …knowledge

Well lets start by covering the bases ,the simple definition for Imagination is “the act or power of creating new ideas” .Knowledge is defined as “the fact or state of knowing; the body of facts accumulated by humankind” . So in simple turns I would think that imagination asserts “what if” which leads to knowledge because it asserts “what so” .So if imagination asserts “What if?” That would mean that all the knowledge that has become part of our lives, are the result of someone asking  “What if?” to be able to prove”what so ?”.

This may sound alittle confusing but what i am getting at here is that knowledge is inspired by imagination .Imagination takes us into the unknown, in which we form metal images which lead to thoughts and ideas and from this we receive information , inventions, art, and other products of the imagination.Look at it like this ,the process that develops that the idea is sparked by imagination .Everyone possesses the ability to create mental image of something that is not perceived through the five senses ,they can be of objects or events that do not exist, are not present, or have happened in the past. In some, it is highly developed, and in others, it manifests in a weaker form. Imagination manifests in verious degress ,it can be the spark for curiosity .In some people the sparks are brighter and can turn to flames ,like Albert Einstein causing the brain to blaze with brilliance ,creating knowledge .Imagination is a stepping stone to knowledge

Another manifestation of imagination is daydreaming or wondering .Day dreaming allows us to not be engaged in something that requires attention, it provides temporary happiness, calmness and relief from stress. we are always sub consciously inviting the unknown into our lives through wondering or day dreaming .In your imagination, you can travel anywhere in the speed of light, without any obstacles. Imagination is so powerful that it makes it possible to experience a whole world inside the mind. It gives the ability to look at any situation from a different point of view, and to mentally explore the past and the future .It can make you feel free, though temporarily, and only in the mind, from tasks, difficulties and unpleasant circumstances .Confronted with a problem you have no knowledge on or where the knowledge effects you negatively , we can turn our imaginations to generating many potential solutions .

So what is imagination it is the solution to creation ,it is the garenteed possibility of anything. Imagination allows us to escape into a world entirely created by your soul .Here ,safe from reality ,we can take a breather from the knowledge that gets to heavy on our shoulders .

Theres another quote by Albert Einstein “if we judge a fish on its ability to climb a tree ,it will lives its whole life thinking it is stupid ” .Knowledge places people in boxes allowing them to only think of themselves within the limitations and mold of that box .Where as imagination allows one to visualize past those limitations sparking curiosity in the soul and encouraging us to be more then we are told we can be.

Therefore i am all for imagination .I think it is more valuable then knowledge purely because it is effinently bigger and has many more aspects a which to look at it.

Okay. Welcome aboard.

Here’s a cheap glass of wine. Where we’re going, you’ll need it.

I’ve got to tell you – I think you’ve picked a great time to get into the story game. I mean, with the success of storytelling podcasts like The Moth, RISK!, Definitely Not the Opera, Snap Judgement and This American Life millions of people are now aware of the phenomenon of modern storytelling. Just about every city in North America now has a regular storytelling event, and there seems to be more opportunities for storytellers than ever before. For raconteurs like us, the getting has never been good-er.

But before you start speaking your heart into the crackly microphone at the local roti place’s storytelling event (at which no one is there to actually hear stories [they’re just there…
